Elevator Counter Weight Frame | CWT Frame
Elevator counter weight frame sits inside the hoistway and balances the elevator car. This frame holds cast iron or steel weights. It moves up and down on guide rails. For vertical transportation in residential buildings and high rise buildings, the frame reduces the work of the hoist motor. When the elevator car goes up, the counter weight frame goes down. This simple action helps transport people safely every day.
Other elevator components like cables, sheaves, and brakes connect to this frame. In a commercial building, the frame carries roughly half the total load. Weight capacity of the frame ranges from 500 kg to 2500 kg. Heavier frames suit freight lifts or busy office towers. Lighter frames fit small apartment buildings.
A proper counter weight frame lowers energy consumption. The motor does not fight gravity. It only moves the difference in weight between the car and the frame. This cuts electricity use by up to 40 percent compared to unweighted systems.
The frame’s steel construction resists bending and rust. Welded joints hold tight under daily starts and stops. Bolt holes line up with standard guide rails. Installation takes one shift for two workers.
For high rise buildings above ten stories, the frame must handle higher travel speeds. Our frames use extra bracing and thicker steel plates. For residential buildings with low traffic, a standard frame works fine.
Check the frame every six months. Look for loose bolts or worn guide shoes. Replace any cracked welds. A well kept counter weight frame lasts twenty years or more.
